The terminal’s minimum arrival draft requirements are FWD - 8.5 m and AFT - 10.5 m. Capesize vessels may therefore need to carry ballast water in a cargo hold to comply with these restrictions.
The Agent must obtain the Terminal’s prior permission for the vessel to de-ballast the cargo hold before commencement of loading operations. Terminal may request from Master to provide assurance that the BWMS is in good working order in writing. Terminal requires: How many hours is required to de-ballast cargo hold & total hours for de-ballasting (prior loading operations, during loading operations and stripping).
Cargo:
Kumba Jig Lump 0.385 CUB. M/MT
Kumba Jig Fines 0.370 CUB. M/MT
LOAD PLANS
Captain to complete load plans as well as Ballast Water Reporting Form
- Ballast Water Reporting Form is in zip file below
- 2. Pre-Arrival Requirements - Saldanha Bay (KIO)
Please provide below load plans at your earliest, however not later than 10-days from arrival
1.. Proposed load plan / load sequence for 1 ship loader and 2 ship loaders
Ships Blue Code IMO Format
(if 2 grades Shipper would prefer to load 1 grade to completion before commencing the next grade).
2. Notes Regarding Load Sequences
Shippers / Terminal kindly request that cargo for trimming purposes not exceed 2000 MT per hold. This to minimize trimming & draft survey times, thus maximizing vessel’s turnaround time.
Kindly endeavour to keep the tonnage difference between holds per pour on Dual Load sequences as close as possible, to avoid one ship loader waiting on the other ship loader to complete the pour.
Should tonnage difference between holds per pour for Dual Loading sequence exceeds 1000 MT please provide reasons below for tonnage difference exceeding 1000 MT

Max Permitted Drafts
Docking: 20.5m (over 19.5m tidal)
Sailing: 21.5m (over 20.5m tidal)
The Master should present his vessel with full propeller immersion preferably trimmed by the stern or even keel. Minimum drafts are dependent on weather conditions.
The following reflects the minimum recommended arrival drafts:
LOA greater than DRAFT FORWARD DRAFT AFT
137m 4.0m 5.5m

Please endeavour to arrive as close as possible to the Port's recommended drafts as above.
If this is not adhered to there is the possibility that the pilot will not board to bring your vessel into port / to load berth"

For berthing purposes, max air draft of 20m applicable."
"We understand that vessel will be fully ballasted upon berthing, however following for your guidance:
Once alongside the berth, a vessel normally has between 8 – 12 hrs. to de-ballast prior commencement of loading.
In this regard, no problems should be encountered with meeting the draft requirements and emptying ballast holds.
Maximum air draft can be increased to 22 meters after berthing."
General Loading Rate
"There are 2 ship loaders with load capacities of between 6 000 – 8 000 MT/HR per ship loader.
Should both ship loaders work simultaneously, a loading rate of up to 10 000 – 15 000 MT/HR can be achieved."
Method of Loading
Ore loading is affected by means of 2 luffing, slewing and traveling ship loaders, fed by a common conveyor belt.
The following loading rates shall apply for the calculation of laytime:
"Under 50,000 " 35,000
"60,000 to 70,000 " 45,000
"90,000 to 110,000 " 65,000
