By using GDBN or creating an account, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy.

4. Information Visible to Other Users

GDBN is partly a professional maritime networking and information-sharing platform.

Certain information may therefore be visible to other authenticated users.

Depending on the feature, this may include:

Profile photographs are intended to be displayed as part of your GDBN identity.

An avatar may also be retrievable through a direct public URL.

You should therefore treat your avatar as public profile information.

Do not upload an image that you do not want associated with your GDBN profile.

GDBN may resize, compress or otherwise technically process uploaded images for storage, security or performance purposes.

5. Live Chat and User Contributions

Information you post through Live Chat or other publishing functions may be visible to other GDBN users.

You should not publish:

  • passwords or authentication information;
  • payment credentials;
  • sensitive personal information;
  • confidential company information;

Certain GDBN functions may allow users to upload photographs, documents, maritime resources, vessel questionnaires or other files.

Where you upload a file:

  • it may pass through GDBN's technical infrastructure;

Where third-party service providers process personal data on behalf of GDBN, appropriate contractual, technical and organisational safeguards are used where required by applicable law.

  • other standard network information.

Independent third-party services operate under their own privacy policies and terms.

GDBN does not control and is not responsible for the independent privacy practices of external websites or services.

Users should review the applicable privacy policy before submitting personal information to an external service.

11. Support GDBN and Payment Information

GDBN may provide voluntary methods allowing users to support the project.

Where support is provided through a bank, external payment provider or another independent payment service, financial information is primarily processed by that provider.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, GDBN does not directly collect or store:

  • complete payment-card numbers;

  • essential platform functionality;
  • remembering necessary preferences.

GDBN does not currently use personal data for cross-site behavioural advertising.

If GDBN introduces non-essential analytics, advertising or tracking technologies that require consent under applicable law, appropriate notice and consent controls will be implemented before such technologies are used.

13. Data Retention and Account Deletion

GDBN retains personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected or where retention is required for legal, security, fraud-prevention or dispute-resolution purposes.

Account Deletion

You may request deletion of your GDBN account.

Where appropriate, GDBN will delete or anonymise personal information that is no longer required.

  • legal obligations;
  • security;
  • fraud prevention;
  • abuse prevention;
  • enforcement of serious account restrictions;
  • unresolved disputes;
  • establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

Deleting an account does not necessarily require deletion of genuinely non-personal maritime information contributed to GDBN.

Where appropriate, such information may instead be retained without personal attribution.

When information is deleted from active systems, temporary copies may remain in infrastructure backups until those backups are overwritten or expire through normal backup processes.

14. Security

GDBN uses reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect personal data against:

  • unauthorised access;

Access to private verification and administrative information is limited to authorised functions and persons with a legitimate need for access.

No internet service or electronic storage system can guarantee absolute security.

Users are responsible for protecting their passwords, email accounts and devices from unauthorised access.

If GDBN becomes aware of a personal-data security incident, we will investigate and take appropriate measures.

Where applicable law requires notification to users or a competent authority, notification will be made in accordance with the applicable requirements.

Where applicable, you may have rights regarding certain decisions made solely through automated processing.

GDBN does not currently use solely automated decision-making intended to produce legal or similarly significant effects on users.

Right to Lodge a Complaint

Where applicable, you may lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority if you believe your personal data has been processed unlawfully.

To protect your information, we may request reasonable verification of your identity before completing certain privacy requests.
